In this episode of the Canine Culture Podcast, Brittany sits down with Nanette, founder and president of Daytona Dog Beach, Inc., to hear how a grassroots effort to allow dogs on Volusia County beaches grew into a thriving nonprofit, volunteer network, and community movement.
Nanette shares how Daytona Dog Beach worked with local officials, businesses, residents, and volunteers to successfully advocate for dog-friendly beach access. What began with a Facebook group ultimately helped establish permanent dog-friendly beach areas in Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach.
But their work goes far beyond simply getting dogs onto the sand. Their volunteer Paw Ambassadors help educate visitors about responsible dog ownership, keep the beaches clean, protect local wildlife, monitor conditions, and promote safe beach experiences for dogs and people alike. Along the way, volunteers have collected more than 15,000 pounds of trash from local beaches.
